FAQ

How much will a pedigree kitten cost?

Prices vary from breeder to breeder, but you can probably expect to pay between £300 and £400 for a show quality cat, up to 50% more for a breeding queen, and up to 100% more for a stud boy.  Bear in mind that these prices include stud fees, food and vets bills, innoculations, and the cost of showing the queen - breeders do not make huge amounts of money!  It is a very satisfying hobby, not a commercial enterprise.

Does a pedigree cat need any special attention?

No more so than a non-pedigree!  Turkish Angoras have a semi-longhaired coat, which means that while they don't need constant grooming, the fur around the back of the legs and on the tummy may need the odd combing now and again.  Unlike Maine Coons and Forest Cats, the fur is fine and less prone to matting.  They don't need to be fed special foods, but a mix of good quality dried and wet food is ideal.  Other than that, a lot of playtime is essential with kittens and young cats.

Should I get one cat or two?

If you are at work all day, please consider getting two cats rather than one, as a kitten left on its own all day will get very lonely.  You may chose to get another pedigree, either one from the same litter or a different breed; or a domestic.  Make sure when getting a domestic that it is a house-reared rather than barn-cat, these will have better temperaments.  Having two cats does not cost an awful lot more than one, and will make both cats happier!
